SACRAMENTO, CA -- The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, the premier organization promoting the development of Hispanic entrepreneurs and emerging Latino businesses in California, announced today that Daisy Fuentes will be inducted into the Chamber's Latinas Hall of Fame at the organization's Annual Convention, scheduled for August 14-16 in Oakland.
Fuentes, who has paved the way for Latinas in television, will be awarded the Excellence in Business Award and inducted into the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce's Latinas Hall of Fame at a luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Oakland City Center Marriott.      The luncheon will take place during Latina Empresario Day, a part of the Chamber's annual convention, expected to draw more than 3,000 small-business advocates, corporate representatives and entrepreneurs. The convention theme and opening plenary, "A Legacy of Latino Leadership: Building America's Business Future," will celebrate the history of the chamber's leadership, reflect on accomplishments and promote the growth of Latino-owned businesses in California and their contributions to the overall economy.
"Daisy Fuentes defines the success of business," said Mark Martinez, President and CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. "She's a role model to Latina entrepreneurs everywhere and that's the reason we honor her today."
Fuentes started out her television career at Telemundo's New York affiliate, WNJU, where she was soon discovered by MTV and became MTV's first Latina VJ. Fuentes was signed to MTV U.S. and MTV Latino, helping her career launch internationally. She has continued to have a powerful on-air presence, including hosting ABC's America's Funniest Video's, Spanish language network Telemundo's La Voz Kids, and dozens of shows and specials.
Since becoming Revlon's first Hispanic face, Fuentes has promoted brands and received endorsements by major corporations such as American Express, Pantene, and M & M's. Following her passion for fashion, Fuentes launched daisyfuentes(R) which sells exclusively at KOHL's. Her lifestyle brand includes sportswear, intimates, accessories, handbags, swimwear, shoes, sunglasses, prescription eyewear, bedding, and fragrances.
With $1.5 billion in sales, daisyfuentes(R) is the second longest running celebrity apparel brand in history.
Headline speakers for this year's convention also include branding expert and author Richard Montanez, the creator of Flamin' Hot Cheetos, acclaimed singer and philanthropist Sheila E. Monica Gil, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations of the Nielsen Company, and Xavier A. Gutierrez, President and Chief Investment Officer of The Meruelo Group.
